Set the limit before the first deposit
A figure chosen while you are calm is a completely different figure from one chosen after a bad hour. Set it on the day you register, while nothing is riding on it.
Betting is a form of entertainment you pay for. Prices are built so the operator keeps a slice of everything staked, and across enough rounds that slice shows up in the balance. This page sets out what the maths does over time, how to recognise the point where play stops being play, and which controls already sit inside your account.
There is no clever moment to walk away and no version of the odds that rewards persistence. Every control below is free and takes under a minute to set. None of them touches the balance you already hold.

Every game on the floor is priced with a margin in favour of the operator. That is not a flaw in the product; it is the product. Knowing the size of it is the difference between an evening that costs what you expected and one that does not.
Return to player is the share of all money staked that a title pays back across its lifetime, measured over millions of rounds by the studio that built it. A 96.4% figure means the game keeps 3.6 cents of every dollar wagered on it, on average, indefinitely.
What RTP does not describe is your Tuesday night. A hundred spins is a rounding error against the sample that number came from, which is why one session ends four times up and the next ends at zero. Short-run variance is enormous, it cuts both ways, and neither result says anything about the next session.
Keep playing long enough and the average asserts itself. Losing is the expected outcome over time, for everyone, including the players who happen to be ahead today. Anyone selling a staking pattern or a lucky hour is selling superstition.
| Stated RTP | House margin | Average loss |
|---|---|---|
| 97.0% | 3.0% | $3.00 |
| 96.7% | 3.3% | $3.30 |
| 96.4% | 3.6% | $3.60 |
| 96.1% | 3.9% | $3.90 |
| 95.5% | 4.5% | $4.50 |
| 94.0% | 6.0% | $6.00 |
Read the last column as staked, not deposited. A $50 balance played through two hundred spins of $0.50 has staked $100, because winnings get wagered again as they land. So a small deposit produces a much larger turnover, and the loss follows the turnover. Over one evening the result will sit nowhere near these averages in either direction.
None of these are about how much you stake. They are about what the staking has started to do to the rest of the week. Read them slowly and answer honestly, since nobody else sees the answers.
One of these on its own is worth noticing. Three or more, and today is the day to do something about it: drop a deposit limit, start a time-out, or call one of the helplines below. Only one of those actions is permanent, and it says so before you confirm it.
Nothing here needs a support ticket or a reason. Every setting lives in one panel and stays in force until you change it. One balance covers casino and sportsbook, so one limit covers both.
Where to find them
| Deposit limit | Daily, weekly or monthly. A lower figure applies immediately; a higher one waits 24 hours. |
|---|---|
| Loss limit | Caps net losses over the same three windows, regardless of how much you have deposited. |
| Wager limit | Caps total stake per period, counting recycled winnings as well as fresh deposits. |
| Session time reminder | A prompt every 15, 30 or 60 minutes showing elapsed time and net position. |
| Reality check | Interrupts play with a summary you have to acknowledge before the next round starts. |
| Time-out | 24 hours to 30 days. Sign-in is blocked, the balance is untouched, no reason required. |
| Self-exclusion | 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or permanent. Cannot be lifted early. Marketing stops with it. |
| Account closure | Shuts the account outright. Withdraw the balance and finish any verification first. |

Advice that amounts to play sensibly is worth nothing. These six specific behaviours are what separate players who stay inside a budget from players who do not.
01
A figure chosen while you are calm is a completely different figure from one chosen after a bad hour. Set it on the day you register, while nothing is riding on it.
02
One card or one wallet, funded on purpose, never the account your salary lands in. The monthly total then sits in a single statement, where you can read it in about ten seconds.
03
Credit, overdraft, payday lender or a loan from a friend. Borrowing turns a bad session into a debt that outlives it, and the pressure to win that debt back is exactly what makes the next session worse.
04
35x wagering on a welcome offer means the credit has to be turned over many times before any of it belongs to you. What the offer buys is a longer play session. Read the terms as a description of time spent.
05
A target balance moves as soon as you reach it. Half past nine does not. Set an alarm outside the app, on a device you have to pick up, and finish the round you are in when it sounds.
06
Account history shows deposits minus withdrawals for any period you select. Look at the real number on the first of the month. It is almost always larger than the one you were carrying in your head.
Bonus wagering is the term most often misread as free money. The full conditions are printed in the offer tables, and reading them before opting in is part of budgeting. See the bonus terms in full
Eighteen is the hard floor, and it rises wherever local law sets a higher age. Registration collects a date of birth, and identity documents are checked before a first withdrawal clears, which catches an underage account eventually. It does not catch a teenager using a session an adult left open on the family tablet.
Sign out when you finish. Closing the tab leaves the session alive. Do not let a browser store the password or the card, keep a passcode on any shared device, and think twice about playing in front of children old enough to copy what they see.
Where a household needs something firmer, filtering software blocks gambling sites at device level. It keeps working on the evenings nobody remembers to log out. Many banks will also refuse gambling transactions on a card once you ask them to switch the block on.
Device-level blocking

Almost every country runs its own gambling service, and a national helpline is usually one search away in your own language. Your bank can switch on a gambling block for the card, and a doctor can refer you locally without the conversation going anywhere else.
Most people who get help were pushed toward it by somebody close to them. The conversation is uncomfortable and usually goes better than expected. Keep it to what has actually happened, and leave the blame out.
Several of the services listed above run separate support for affected family members, including group sessions where nobody has to explain the basics first. You are allowed to use them for your own sake. That is reason enough.
This is the strongest control on the account and the only one that cannot be undone. Six steps, about ten minutes, and no conversation with anyone required.
01
Request a withdrawal for whatever is left and wait for it to land. On a verified account crypto usually confirms in 10 to 30 minutes and e-wallets within a few hours.
02
From the account menu, go to Responsible Gaming. Self-exclusion sits below the limit fields, behind its own confirmation.
03
6 months, 1 year, 5 years or permanent. If you are hesitating between two of them, the longer one is the safer error.
04
The block applies at once. Sign-in stops working, open bets settle as normal, and the account stays shut for the whole period you selected.
05
Operator marketing stops with the exclusion. Delete saved card details from the browser, unsubscribe from affiliate mailing lists and take the app off the phone.
06
Install blocking software on every device and speak to one of the services listed above. An exclusion buys the months; what happens inside them is the part that decides anything.
Read this before you confirm
A self-exclusion cannot be lifted early. Support has no button for it, a change of mind on day three makes no difference, and opening a second account under another email breaches the terms and ends with that account closed. Treat the decision as final while you are still deciding, because afterwards it will be final whether or not you meant it that way.
Gambling is for adults and is off-limits to anyone under eighteen, or older where local law says so. It will not earn you money or repair a bad month, and no strategy converts a negative expectation into a positive one.
If any part of this page described you, the useful next step is the limit panel or a helpline, in whichever order you can manage today.
